I guess I'm not as much of a purist as some here. I make DVDs off EyeTV digital HD broadcast recordings with Toast 7 and they look and sound very close to the original HD broadcasts on my 24" Dell 1920 x 1200 display. I cannot see much nor hear any difference.
Call me old fashioned but I just don't see why I would want Blu-ray or HD-DVD until they are cost competitive with good old fashioned single layer 4.38 GB DVDs.
Well maybe on the 24" screen, but go to play it on a 42" or larger plasma monitor, and the difference will become apparent. On the 24" screen you've got a pitch of about 92 ppi, the plasma screens run from 53 ppi for the 42" down to 37 ppi on a 60" screen (remember the resolution doesn't change, just the screen size). On these less dense screens, the full resolution of the HD image, along with the greater color depth that HD provides over NTSC is significant.

Ok I see the auction says cancelled by seller. Guess we scared him ;)
yeah for someone who claims to know all the ins and outs, you'd think he would have bragged about the ability to somehow force the high bidder to pay the $5000. But instead he's just crawled back into his toolshed.

That's a great idea! I'd love to see that for when I'm traveling and don't want to turn on international data roaming for the internet, but can still use cell towers for triangulation of my position.

Who needs a new iphone every year? Let alone every 2 years? I just got an iphone 4 and it's so much more advanced than certainly any phone that I've ever had (and probably more advanced than most phones out there), that I don't see anyone needing to replace it ever unless it brakes.

uhm, Hi,
I was sorta of wondering. Is there anyway to make a completly seperate Ical window, so that you have to Icals, not just one Ical with different color options.
I know this can be done by creating a new login, but i wanted to see if it can be done for the same login.
thanks

What's in it for me? Seriously, the owner of Macrumors makes $100K plus off this site (so much that he quit his job AS A DOCTOR.) Why should I give blood just to glorify the name of his website & make him richer?
What's in it for me?
Soooo.... He should shut down this site and go back to being a doctor? Would THAT make you comfortable to donate blood? Does quitting his job make him ineligible to do further public health work?
I'm having difficulty understanding your logic, unless.... You're jealous of him. That fits perfectly.

[...] This would just mean us designers would have to spend that much more time envisioning what would happen if a user resized every form element on every page and incorporating it into our layouts. This is why I hope there's a way to disable it outright.
You already have to envision what will happen when a user changes the text size. The web is not print or TV, it's supposed to be flexible and to be controlled by the user, not the designer. Your website should look good wether the user changes the text size, disables plug-ins, disables images or even disables CSS.
Granted, the website won't look exactly the same in each case, but the content and the structure should be visible in all cases if the website is coded properly. That's the power of CSS and structured content.
Using javascript to disable a browser feature (like the useless "disable right-click" one) is working against your viewers. A simple "disable javascript" will also bypass your script.

Does this drag and drop include attachements? That has always been my biggest pain with webmail (any webmail service, gmail, hotmail, ...) was that it is really annoying to send attachements (one by one adding and uploading instead of adding them all and upload them all at once)

As mentioned above. Interested in purchasing an 8GB iPhone, does NOT have to be unlocked (I'm AT&T) and would prefer it not since people seem to believe that running a program for 10 minutes makes it worth $150 on top :).

Not at all - it's a well-established truism that Americans prefer sedans over hatchbacks and wagons, they prefer large, torquey engines (usually V6 or V8), and they prefer lots of car for cheap as opposed to a smaller, higher-quality car.
Though cars are being kept longer these days than in the past, Americans tend to dispose of their cars at a greater rate than, say, in Europe. So it makes sense that cheaper build quality is more viable when the car is not expected to last forever.
Will be interesting to see if VW survives the Americanization of their car line. One of the tings I saw last year was that they are going to make their new cars feel more like what Americans are used to driving. And that is a shame - since one of the few joys I had with my POC '99 New Beetle was how fun it was to drive. So much for fahrvergngen - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fahrvergngen

So Samsung believed Apple was violating it's patents all this time but decided to do nothing about it. Now that they have been pushed they decide to act. Sounds to me they are trying to find whatever they can to bite back at Apple.
Well it could be that they thought they had a mutual understanding with Apple that they could borrow some technologies from each other but now that Apple choose to sue (Apple waited too you know, the Galaxy S wasn't exactly launched two weeks ago) Samsung is not gonna let it slide. I'm not commenting on the validity of the claim but I want to point out that people should remember that patents aren't only for the tangible things we consumers see, like the similarities between iOS and Touchwiz, but also the transparent to us consumers- under the hood technology, for which Samsung holds lots of patents.

http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/07/ataris-greatest-hits-for-iphone-ipad-and-icade/)
Atari has released a new emulator for the iPhone and iPad called Atari's Greatest Hits (http://appshopper.com/games/ataris-greatest-hits) [iTunes (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ataris-greatest-hits/id422966028?mt=8)]. The free universal download comes with Pong and also offers a selection of 100 classic Atari arcade and 2600 console games for in-app purchase. The full list of games can be seen here (http://toucharcade.com/2011/04/06/atari-brings-100-retro-titles-to-ios-in-ataris-greatest-hits/) but include Asteroids, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Gravitar, Star Raiders, Missile Command, Tempest, Battlezone, and much more. Each 4-pack is offered for $0.99 or all 100 games can be purchased for $14.99.
The package has been well received (http://toucharcade.com/2011/04/07/ataris-greatest-hits-review-my-god-its-full-of-pixels/) at sister site TouchArcade, but perhaps most promising is that Atari had previously announced support (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/01/08/ces-2011-icade-for-ipad-magic-mouse-inductive-charger/) for the iCade iPad gaming accessory.

Ok, explain to me how there is any reasonable doubt the arizona shooter is guilty, explain to me how there is any reasonable doubt the connecticut home invaders are guilty, explain to me how there is any reasonable doubt that someone who fully confesses to their crime is guilty. Your argument is nonsense.
You're forgetting that I disagree that killing for killing is justice. The potential failures of the justice system are only one (very good) argument against it.
If your idea of a discussion is everyone agreeing with your view, then yes that's exactly what i've done. I don't care about what you think either, your opinion is in the minority anyway so i'm in good company.
My idea of discussion is rational reasoning, not bloodthirsty appeals to emotion or polls proving one is in "good company".
