Why would Apple do what has failed all other manufactures during the time Apple's one model mantra have eaten sales from other manufactures?
I'd stop to think about what you're saying before you speak. Maybe check the stats from anytime this year.
The iPhone does not have a majority of the share in the smartphone market.
As of Q1 RIM had a commanding lead over iPhone; http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/06/06/apples_iphone_market_share_three_times_greater_than_android_in_us.html
Other more recent reports show'd RIM slipping, but still higher than iOS. This one also show Nokia as having an even greater lead than both.
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/apple-iphone-smartphone-market-share-surges-rim-slips/34181
And the MOST recent data (as of yesterday) has Android beating iOS; http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/10/05/android-passes-blackberry-and-iphone-among-recent-smartphone-purchases/
"Fail"? HA, Hardly.

Coming from Office 2007 on my Windows 7 desktop, I can say that Office 2011 for Mac is amazing. That said, during my transition period, I absolutely needed a spreadsheet application to edit an Excel file for work. Unfortunately, I wasted $20 in the Mac App Store on Numbers, a program I used for a total of about 30 minutes before deciding that Office 2011 was for me.

But all those chicklet sized buttons just look like a crazed Bedazzler-wielding mom attacted an innocent cell phone.
This was the funniest thing I've read all week.
I've been in insurance training, and in addition to financial people, there's been some, uh, "Desparate Housewives" getting their insurance licenses, and I'm picturing them passing around a poor phone and a bedazzler during class now.

Are iPods glass-fronted like the iPhone? If so, then removing the button may reduce the chance of shattering the screen when dropped. The edge of the circular cutout could be the weakest point of the glass on an iPhone.
I agree though, it would be a pain if you couldn't hold the device without the fear of accidentally triggering a touch sensitive button, as you can with the current physical button.

Personally, I can't see how Apple could be seen to be the good guys in this case, given they're sending cease-and-desist letters to people using 'pod' (not "iPod") in their product names.
I'm actually reversing myself here, now that I've gotten a chance to read it. This isn't a true C&D letter, in fact, they're only opening up a dialog. Also, the pod reference is specific to content loaded onto portable media players, not 'pod' in general. Seems reasonable to me.

I give up.
I know the feeling. :D
I tried to put the Obama/Hu/Ballmer January meeting in perspective since this story first appeared. (Links and all…) But heh, fanboys and galls will believe what they want to believe.
:o
Anyway:
I'll try again:
Steve Ballmer was in France on the day the dinner party was held, there to receive (http://www.microsoft-watch.com/content/corporate/obama_toasts_tech_heavyweights_ballmer_not_present.html) the Legion D’Honneur from President Nicolas Sarkozy. And it’s pretty hard to be in two places at once, especially when they’re a few thousand miles apart.
Admittedly Ballmer's French is dire, still he tried.
Linky (http://www.01net.com/editorial/528445/steve-ballmer-%28microsoft%29-promu-chevalier-de-la-legion-dhonneur/?r=/rss/actus.xml)… and here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYKjFfkqBmo)…
Edit:
And… cue the usual "Cheese-eating surrender monkeys" posts

Pages 1.0 is typical Apple. Anytime Apple puts out the first version of a product, its really a beta.
And, no, not necessarily because of bugs, but because it lacks the features or speed that a GM product should (ie OS 10.0)

He's a super-nice kid. And yes, he is super-hot, but I can't lead on that I think that. ;) He knows I am gay (see most embarrasing moments thread), but he would definitely not like me hitting on him.
That said, yes, I don't mind him coming to pick me up.
So I take it the answer to my quetion is "yes"....
Is this the same guy (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=147827) who is likely to post naked pictures of women all over your bedroom so you'll wake up, see them, but be too weak to take them down?

I just got off the phone with sale rep, and all they have is 32gb and 64gb left. When asked about the price, she said $500 for 32gb (??). I mentioned the article and she still said $500. Weird? Is there an official link to this somewhere on the verizon site, as all I can see is it bundled with mifi @ 429.99 (16gb).
My store knew about the price drop and they had the price tag on the display updated. At the bottom of the price sheet that shows the iPad2 and iPad1 prices, it showed 299/399/499 for the different models. My guess is if you buy it in store, it should ring up at the lower price.

True. If only it supported reading usb flash drives, I could abandon my laptop except for syncing. So instead, I got an iPod.

$1.12CAD per litre, which, depending on your definition of a gallon, works out approximately to $4.64US per gallon.
That's pretty good. It keeps going up for us here in Vancouver...

It's always interesting to be exposed to a slice of history that had been up to now unknown to me. Margaret Sanger did in fact give a speech to the wives of the KKK in 1926. Here is her account (http://www.thefreshfacts.com/margaret-sangers-account-of-her-lecture-to-the-ku-klux-klan-educational-video-film-2/) of that evening from her autobiography ...

Nonsense. Apple is selling a lot of computers right now because Jobs Osbourned the entire PowerPC range just over a year ago by announcing the switch to Intel. For each model of Mac, sales were artificially low before the Intel version was launched, and artificially higher after.
Additionally, people are happer buying Macs if they know they can switch back to Windows if it doesn't work out. One of the major barriers to owning a Mac has been removed by the Intel switch (whatever my misgivings on the subject.)
It's simply ridiculous to argue that the ads have helped sales. Sales would be much higher now than they would have been six months ago even if Apple had stopped advertising completely. The question is whether they would be even higher if they weren't insulting their target audience. The answer, of course, is yes.
They sold how many macs last quarter? Over a million, right? How many boot camp downloads have they had....?
Of course the ads have helped sales - the question is, how much. Are you seriously implying that no advertising WHATSOEVER would increase sales...?
