Are you people seriously applauding this? What a waste of our tax dollars!! I do contracts with the Navy every single day and I know that the technology that they have will not be benefited by the use of iPad/iPod/iPhone. The military does not offer wi-fi to their staff on base. Everything is hard wired and the conduit is sealed with a tamper proof silicon. The Government is very very particular about their SIPRnet (as they call it). Without wi-fi, what use is the iPad for the military other than to give them a little treat and waste our tax dollars? They already have mobile equipment in the vehicles that is far superior to Apple's products.

My father-in-law is a retired Naval Flight Officer, an electrical engineer, and works for SPAWAR in San Diego. He does not like Apple, he likes to do things the hardway and is stuck with windows, even though he concedes things like the iPhone have better technology than his Blackberry (The Blackberry's touch screen pushes down and triggers a touch vs. on an iPhone you just touch it, similar to putting a folder over your keyboard and calling it a touchkeyboard - keys are still being stroked).

My father-in-law has also submitted proposals to deliver millions in savings to the gov't by utilizing off-the-shelf components for USN,USCG, and USMC systems. I went in for a 16GB black AT&T and 5 hours later I left with the last 16GB white Verizon. I can live with the white so far, it's pretty cute, but if I hate Verizon I'll return it and wait for AT&T.

They're too big to go into a pocket..., they can't be shared around like books, they'll need recharging if they're used heavily. The ipad is a lot of things, sure, but there's lots of things it isn't, too.
Can't fit in a pocket... that's an advantage for schools like the middle school I help, because they can't "walk off" with a student. We currently use carts with Mac laptops. They charge up while in the cart, then get handed out to students for a group project. If they were iPads they would take less space in a crowded classroom and boot up faster. I hope they would be as durable. They don't need to be shared like books. Each student would have one, but if two students had to share one it would be big enough for that too. And we'd save money over replacing the laptops with newer laptops as they age.
First-issue iPads would be fine for group projects that involve access to websites (without Flash) and word processing, but with suitable new applications I hope clever teachers would be able to find even more useful educational activities for their students. And I know the students would be enthusiastic about using them.
When we first started replacing chalkboards with digital whiteboards, some people thought it was a solution looking for a problem, but soon teachers found how to use the new potential to do much more than they could with an old-fashioned board. Despite the doubts of some posters above, I think schools like ours will have good uses for iPads (or their marketplace competitors) as educators experiment and innovate.

Funny, I really haven't noticed any bad slowdowns in any of the software I use on my Mac Pro (could be it was such a huge upgrade for me tho :).

been thinking about swallowing the mac pro pride, and going the hackintosh route, been reading the F@H FAQ about the gpu's an such, and i'd get a tonne more hackintosh for my money then i would mac pro, so i may go down that route, would prolly make upgrading things to stay current a lot easier then the mac pro too :D

EF-s and EF is the mount type.
the focal length of the lenses is exactly the same. Canon cannot mount EF-s lenses on EF only bodies but Nikon full frame bodies CAN mount the smaller image circle lenses and vice versa, so there you CAN compare it.
The 12-24mm sigma will work on both and its FOCAL LENGTH is 12-24mm on BOTH. On the crop sensor you just SEE less of the whole image. It's like on a full frame camera you see the whole image and on a crop body you see only a largish middle part of the image.
That is the ONLY difference. No focal length changes no nothing.
It may APPEAR to be closer shot but it is not. You can take your image shot on a 5d with that 12-24mm and crop it by 1.6 and you will have the EXACT same image as if you take the same lens on your 7d and shoot it.

The NDS (at least in the UK) launched with Mario 64 DS and Wario Ware Touched, two great games rated 85 and 81 by metacritic.com respectively.
The 3DS has Street Fighter.
I forgot about those two and with Mario 64, I recall hating the touch-screen analog stick, so never completed it. Wario Ware was fun though and that's a game I borrowed. But the rest, bleh! I played Zelda Minish Cap on my DS when I first got it and then finally finished Zelda LttP(GBA), so at least I had games to play that I enjoyed.
Won't be buying Street Fighter, Capcom is on my shite-list, oh and I've always hated playing fighter games on any portable. :o

I would LOVE this. I have been with T-Mobile for over five years, and they are a great company. Unfortunately I cannot get out of my new contract until Nov. so having the iPhone on T-Mobile would be awesome, hoping that they can prepare with all the data that will come with it.

Or letting them have custom systems or having the use dells / hp / who ever with mac os x?
OS X officially does not run on non-Apple hardware.
The Government, I mean serious government, with big purchasing power gets great deals on Mac's better than you think and competitive to the high end systems you might get from Dell etc

Yeah, I knew this was inevitable. (I'm running a 1.25 GHz G4 iMac.) That being said, for the applications I use (and this won't be one of them), I honestly don't see myself being forced to buy an Intel machine for a loooong time. Just because Adobe has decided to rpoceed in this manner doesn't mean other companies will follow suit. And you can bet that Apple definitely won't, at least not for a few more years. Heck, Classic was supported until what, last year essentially? And the G3 machines up until Leopard? ;) :cool:
